Position Overview

Water Safety Instructors will work closely with our Instructor Trainers to design, execute, observe, and reflect upon Learn-To-Swim lessons and programming to meet the needs of all our swimmers while educating our communities about how to stay safe in, on, and around the water.

Newport, Vermont

Essential Duties
  • Work closely with our Instructor Trainers to develop and execute engaging Learn-To-Swim lessons that are aligned with the American Red Cross Water Safety and Learn-To-Swim Curriculum
  • Observe swimmers and provide real-time feedback to enhance swimmer’s skills
  • Differentiate swim lessons to meet the needs of all swimmers with various abilities
  • Ensures the safety of all swimmers and participants by enforcing facility and organization rules and regulations, as well as keeping the facility tidy at all times
  • Build relationships with swimmers & their families
  • Follow the organization’s policies for behavior management
  • Complete and submit all documentation timely
  • Communicate effectively with our Team Leaders, families, and swimmers
  • Contribute to enhancing our programs by providing Team Leaders with creative ideas and feedback to implement into programs
  • Attend and actively participate in weekly meetings & professional development training with Team Leaders
  • Act as a positive role model, encouraging respect and enthusiasm for learning
  • Complete these duties and other duties as assigned in a professional and respectful manner
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage and motivate students of all ages
  • Experience working with children
  • Receptive to feedback and continuously looking to grow within our organization
  • Basic computer and internet skills
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to program locations in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont
  • Be able to demonstrate competency in the following swimming strokes & skills: Front Crawl, Back Crawl, Elementary Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly, Sidestroke, Float on back for 1 minute, Tread water for 1 minute
  • Be able to demonstrate competency with lifeguarding prerequisites: Endurance Swim: 500 yds with rotary breathing and without stopping; Timed Skill: Obtain a 10lb brick from a 9ft pool and swim 20 yards with brick
